Sometimes, things come from the most unexpected places

If you were to ask almost anyone who knows me what I’m known for, chances are they’d say my positivity. I like to think of myself as a glass-half-full, always-looking-on-the-bright-side, seeing-the-good-in-people kind of girl.

While that might be true on most days, as much as I hate to admit it, there are days when it’s hard to see the bright side. Days when I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders. Days when I’m completely overwhelmed or when my brain just won’t stop spinning.

When I’m knee-deep in all the not-so-fun things life throws my way, I have to remind myself that even the most positive, happy people have bad days. It’s okay and it’s perfectly normal.

Recently, I had the most amazing and completely unexpected conversation. It wasn’t one I ever imagined having, but it turned into something filled with positivity, honesty, and kindness. At the time, life was smooth sailing with no struggles in sight, but afterward, I realized just how much I needed that chat, even though I didn’t know it then.

Not long after that conversation, some tough news came my way, and that conversation became the light that helped guide me back to being my positive, happy-go-lucky self. Hearing those supportive words really hit home and changed my outlook. This person not only offered encouragement but also shared what helps them stay grounded, and it truly resonated with me. Three simple words that have stuck with me ever since: See the Positive.

Staying positive when life gets tough isn’t easy. It takes practice, a lot of it. But even though it’s hard, it’s worth it. A positive mindset doesn’t just boost your mental well-being, it also supports your physical health. It can lower stress, help you bounce back faster, and even protect against depression.

Positivity didn’t always come naturally to me. It’s something I’ve had to work on and choose, over and over again. When you choose to stay positive, even during the hardest times, things don’t necessarily get easier, but they do feel more manageable.

Here are a few things that have helped me on my positivity journey:

 Practice gratitude.
Take a moment to notice the good things in your life, big or small. You might be surprised at just how much is going right.

Reframe negative thoughts.
This one took a lot of practice, but it’s powerful. Whenever a negative thought pops up, swap it out for a positive one. Over time, your brain starts doing it automatically, I promise!

Make time for self-care.
You’ve heard me say it before, self-care is essential. For me, it means time in nature, but it looks different for everyone. It might be a hot bath, a walk around the block, a call with a loved one, or a day at the spa. Whatever it looks like for you, make it a regular habit, especially when times are tough. When you’re relaxed and recharged, it’s much easier to stay positive.

And if you’re finding that nothing seems to help, that it’s just too hard to stay positive, please, reach out for support. I know that’s not always easy, it can feel scary to admit something isn’t right, but taking that first step can make all the difference.

Support can look different for everyone. For me, it came through a conversation I never expected. For others, it might be a quick chat with a friend, a visit with a doctor or nurse, or even a call or text to a support line. Reaching out offers hope; it’s often the first step in finding your footing again. And if you notice someone who seems to be struggling or just a little “off,” take a moment to check in. Ask how they’re doing. You might open the door to a healing conversation they didn’t even realize they needed. A simple “How are you, really?” can make a world of difference, and we all have that power, whether we recognize it or not.

Remember to be kind to yourself, practice self-care, and reach out for help if you need it.
